Exclusive Interview With Sally Njie

Gambia's finest radio presenter

Sally Njie known to many as Sister is a young Gambian radio presenter who hosts the very famous radio show call Wah Sah Halat. She is also a big promoter of Gambian music. Her love for Gambian music is so powerful that she attends every Gambian show. She is a role model to a lot of young girls. In this interview she talks about herself, job and personal life......




Lillian: Who is Sally Njie?
Sally: Sister is a lady with the an ambition and she's on a mission to take Gambian music to another level insha Allah

Lillian: Who gave you the name "sister"?
Sally: Well my uncle gave me that name "sister" from the movie "Sister Act"

Lillian: Oh really, any reasons why?
Sally: Um mm i really can't remember but i wasn't as mischievous as the sisters thou lol

Lillian: Lol okay i will let that slide. You are a radio presenter right?
Sally: Yes i am a radio presenter at West Coast Radio

Lillian: Is it something you have always wanted to do or you fell in love with it along the way?
Sally: I fell in love with it when i was in the ninth grade, at first i was a sports presenter on the famous sports file show with Peter Gomez, CEO of West Coast Radio.

Lillian: I'm not surprised when you said sports presenter because back in the day you were a tomboy so i'm kinda surprised you changed. Even the way dress has changed a lot . Did you grow up or something?
Sally: Well yeah i can say that, even tho it's still in me but am still growing up...

Lillian: What's behind the intense love for Gambian music espcially rap??
Sally: Growing up i had a passion for music, rap i fell in love with the most because being a tomboy, you definitely need to love rap... For Gambian music, i love my country and following our music through the likes of X Myles, DJ Mo, etc i fell in love.

Lillian: So have you tired getting more qualifications or have you thought about it? The experience is good but you know nowadays you need both experience and qualifications?
Sally: Right... Well am working on that, Education is the key to success. As am talking to you, am doing my research because presentation is not the only career i want to take up...

Lillian: That's true so what other area are you looking at?
Sally: Graphics design and TV presentation,might go deeper into Computing thou, want to be an expert on it....

Lillian: That's is great and it will help in the long run. How did you come up with your Facebook page Wah Sa Halat?
Sally: Right... Well it just came through an interview i had with a couple of artist and they where talking bout having a platform and i was like "yeah a platform "purr ngen wah sen halat"... There it was, had to change my sunday non stop music to the WAH SA HALAT show...

Lillian: That show has been really great for most up coming artists. How do you feel after every your Sunday show?
Sally: Well even thou i go back home with a headache after every other sunday, i still feel great to be part of such great show that's taking our music to another level and hopes for another sunday to come back quick...

Lillian: How do you deal with people who either call on you show and curse at you or write some crazy things on your page cause i know you get those often?
Sally: Oh yeah i get them all the time but even thou i do get pissed but i'am use to it now and it just keeps me going stronger... #motivation.

Lillian: Any prince charming in your life?
Sally: Lol yes i am very TAKEN in caps..

Lillian: Guys you heard that, she is taken in caps. Engaged?
Sally: Yes i am... Lol

Lillian: Well then congrats i hope i hear wedding bells soon
Sally: Thanks and Inshaallah:-)

Lillian: So how does he cope with you been a public figure, i mean it's not easy having a radio presenter for a fiancee?
Sally: Lol i can imagine but its like we are both in the same both so its easy to deal with...

Lillian: Oh then he is in the game too?
Sally: Yes he is

Lillian: For real, so do you want me to ask you the question or you already know my next question?
Sally: Well you just ask me...

Lillian: Okay who is that man has swept thee of thy feet lol?
Sally: Essa Colley is his name but he is known as Enc Di Real, Dancehall Artists, Club Dj and a Radio Presenter...

Lillian: I'm going to repeat guys she is taken. Being someone who plays a big role in the entertainment industry what do think about Gambian music now?
Sally: It is improving i will say considering how dull it was 5 years ago, alhamdulilah its moving...

Lillian: But you think there is room for improvement right?
Sally: It is already improving but yes there is still room for improvement, we have a long way to go...

Lillian: I heard you have a favoriate artist thou, true?
Sally: Lol that is so obvious, yes my favorite Gambian Artist is Manding Morry.

Lillian: Oh i thinking it was Gee thou lol,
Sally: Lol i know you were going to coming to that

Lillian: Seriously thou i was thinking it's him,so what advice do you have Gambian artists
Sally: Let them work harder, be determined, research more and be positive-minded... They have a long way to go.

Lillian: What do you do for fun?
Sally: My job is more fun for me but i do surf the internet and watch movies or reality tv shows...

Lillian: Well you heard her people, she sure does love her job anyways sister thanks for the interview.
